In a significant step towards bolstering healthcare accessibility, the construction of the Specialized Hospital at Bath Settlement in Region Five is swiftly advancing, with the foundation now nearing 85 percent completion.
Residents of Region Five are on the brink of gaining access to specialized healthcare services, eliminating the need for extensive travel.
This facility is one of six being erected nationwide through the collaboration of Chinese companies Sinopharm International and China CAMC Engineering Company Limited, with a combined investment of approximately 40 billion dollars.
Regional Chairman, Vickchand Ramphael, provided an update on the ongoing progress.
He stated that while the construction company awaits certain materials, substantial headway is being made.
He also noted the presence of additional materials on-site, slated for utilization in subsequent phases after the foundation’s completion.
The new hospital holds immense promise for the people of Region Five, offering specialized services that were previously unavailable in the region.
Presently, patients often require transfers to Georgetown due to the limited capacities of the existing two hospitals.
Once the 6.6-billion-dollar facility is finalized, this logistical challenge will be overcome, providing a vital resource for the region.
Chairman Ramphael emphasized the positive impact this facility will have on riverine communities and agricultural areas, offering them a level of healthcare comfort and convenience previously unavailable.
During the sod-turning ceremony in May, Health Minister Dr. Frank Anthony outlined the impressive features of the upcoming hospital.
These include 75 in-patient beds, three operating theatres (including two for major surgeries), a neonatal unit for premature infants, advanced digital diagnostic services, and a state-of-the-art laboratory.
