Progress Update on Ministry of Health’s Electronic Health Records System

Efforts to enhance Guyana’s healthcare sector through advanced practices are advancing with the Ministry of Health’s electronic health records system.

Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony, has announced that the electronic health database project has entered its second phase.

Currently, four out of fourteen interested companies are undergoing rigorous evaluation to assist with the physical cards required for the system.

Dr. Anthony emphasized that these companies are in the process of evaluating their software offerings, a critical step in the decision-making process.

He anticipates that the evaluation will conclude within a month, after which a final decision on the partnering company will be made.

Highlighting the importance of data security, Minister Anthony mentioned that technical teams have already started archiving and securing personal data in compliance with new data protection laws.

This measure aims to ensure that patients’ data is securely protected.

The implementation of the Data Protection Bill is expected to further bolster the management and security of the electronic health database, facilitating efficient healthcare management across Guyana.

As this initiative progresses, it is anticipated that a centralized healthcare database will be established, consolidating citizens’ medical records for improved healthcare delivery.
