The Guyanese government is actively advancing its efforts to establish a regional law school in the country, according to Attorney General Anil Nandlall.
During a press briefing, Nandlall highlighted that the project remains a priority for the Ministry of Legal Affairs, and significant steps have been taken to assess its feasibility.
Nandlall informed the media that the Council of Legal Education directed them to prepare a feasibility study to evaluate the viability of establishing a law school in Guyana.
A dedicated unit within the ministry is currently finalizing this study, and the report is expected to be presented soon.
In addition to the feasibility study, the Attorney General shared that the government has already secured a plot of land on the University of Guyana’s grounds to accommodate the intended law school.
An architectural design for the facility has been obtained from a reputable architecture and design company.
Furthermore, the government is in ongoing communication with the Council of Legal Education of the West Indies to gather essential information for the study, such as the number of eligible law students in the Caribbean.
Nandlall emphasized that these efforts align with the government’s broader vision of establishing Guyana as an offshore educational hub.
The establishment of a Guyana Law School reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing legal education and providing opportunities for aspiring legal professionals in the region.
