The construction of the government office complex, with a budget of 15.8 billion dollars, is progressing smoothly, according to an update provided during today’s sitting of the National Assembly.

Minister Juan Edghill, the Minister of Public Works, provided an update on the project in response to questions from the political opposition regarding its current status.

He reported that all preparatory works for the complex have been completed, signaling a significant milestone in the project’s development.

Initially planned for the Houston area, the project’s site was relocated to Haags Bosch.

Minister Edghill stated that the new site is being prepared for construction to commence, with the entire site already cleared, and significant progress made in land filling and geotechnical assessments.

Caribbean Green Building Inc., the appointed contractor, has submitted designs for the facility tailored to the new site.

These designs are awaiting approval from the supervisory consultant.

The new plot of land, spanning over 20 acres, is larger than the original site, providing ample space for the construction of the complex.

Minister Edghill also disclosed the project’s financial details, revealing that 2.6 billion dollars were expended in 2022, and an additional four billion dollars in 2023.

Once completed, the office complex will feature four towers accommodating various government ministries and agencies.

Its strategic location will offer easy access to its over 6000 employees from the major highways currently under construction.

As the project continues to move forward, it represents a significant investment in Guyana’s infrastructure, promising to provide modern and efficient facilities for government operations.
