The local private sector is stepping up in the fight against road accidents by supporting road safety awareness initiatives.
This collaborative effort is welcomed by the Guyana National Road Safety Council.
With road accidents remaining a significant concern, the private sector has acknowledged the need for greater involvement in promoting safer roadways.
Rafeek Khan, Vice Chairman of the Private Sector Commission, announced that the business community will partner with the police traffic department and the road safety council to enhance road safety awareness.
Khan explained that a committee will be established to increase opportunities for raising awareness and addressing road safety challenges.
This committee aims to better serve the private sector by providing information and resources on safe road practices.
Coordinator of the Road Safety Council, Ramona Doorgen, expressed confidence that the private sector’s support will significantly bolster their efforts.
She emphasized the importance of ensuring that companies, including new ones, adhere to road safety rules and regulations.
The collaboration will focus on educating, training, and raising awareness within the private sector.
These initiatives are expected to roll out in the coming weeks and months.
