Prime Minister Mark Phillips and Senior Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh recently embarked on a tour of the Power Ship, which has docked at Everton, West Bank Berbice.
The power ship, which arrived from Cuba, is expected to contribute 36 megawatts of electricity to the Demerara Berbice Interconnected System.
During the tour, Prime Minister Phillips expressed satisfaction with what he saw, emphasizing that this investment signifies a step in the right direction.
Dr. Ashni Singh highlighted that while the power ship alone may not fully resolve the energy challenges, it will significantly assist, especially amid a growing economy.
He underscored ongoing efforts to address the issue, including the construction of a 300-megawatt gas-to-energy project expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Guyana Power and Light (GPL), Kesh Nandalall, affirmed that the powering up of the national grid on May 8 is on schedule, with minor adjustments remaining to be completed.
Nandalall assured that the necessary infrastructure is in place for the power ship’s integration into the network.
The tour signifies a commitment to enhancing Guyana’s energy infrastructure and ensuring a reliable electricity supply for its citizens.
