A farewell ceremony was held at the World Bank Gardens on Carmichael Street on Friday evening to honor Yeşim Oruç, the outgoing United Nations Resident Coordinator in Guyana.
The event was attended by government ministers, members of the diplomatic community, colleagues, and friends.
Prime Minister Mark Phillips praised Oruç for her significant contributions to Guyana during her tenure.
He acknowledged her role as a reliable partner and supporter of the country’s development goals.
The Prime Minister highlighted Oruç’s efforts in strengthening Guyana’s relationship with UN agencies and her instrumental role in advancing the nation’s development objectives, aligned with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
In her remarks, Yeşim Oruç expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the support and recognition she received.
She appreciated the generous contributions of the Guyanese people and acknowledged the value of the time, leadership, and visibility provided by the government in various UN activities.
Dr. Gillian Smith, Country Representative for the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to Guyana, and the World Bank Group Representative for Guyana were also present at the ceremony.
