“Giving back is a reflection of our humanity.”
This was the powerful message delivered by Prime Minister, Hon. Brigadier Ret’d Mark Phillips, as he joined the Salvation Army to launch their annual Christmas Kettle Appeal at the Umana Yana.
Speaking to the gathering, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of teaching the next generation the values of compassion and responsibility.
He encouraged everyone to bring their children to the kettle stands and let them experience the joy of giving, reinforcing the lessons of kindness and generosity.
The Salvation Army’s Divisional Leader, Major Mireille St-Lot, shared the ambitious target for this year’s campaign, which includes distributing 2,000 food hampers, hosting parties for children, and providing gifts to institutions throughout the season.
The appeal runs from the second week of November until the end of December, with donations being used to support food, shelter, and rehabilitation for the less fortunate.
The community is encouraged to donate whenever they see the red kettles, a symbol of hope during the holiday season.
