Preventing Dengue: A Vital Health Concern

Dengue fever, caused by the dengue virus and transmitted through mosquito bites, remains a significant health concern, particularly in tropical and subtropical regions.

Individuals can gain insights on how to protect themselves from this viral infection in this NCN Health report sponsored by Essential Care Pharmacy and GTM Insurance.

While many individuals infected with dengue may not exhibit symptoms, those who do may experience high fever, headache, body aches, nausea, and rash.

While most cases resolve within 1–2 weeks, severe cases of dengue can be life-threatening and require hospitalization.

Dr. Reza Niles, featured on the program ‘Health Matters’, emphasizes the importance of preventing mosquito bites to reduce the risk of dengue transmission.

He advises individuals to take precautions such as using mosquito repellents, wearing long sleeves and pants, and ensuring there are no areas of stagnant water where mosquitoes can breed.

Moreover, Dr. Niles highlights the significance of controlling mosquitoes both inside and outside homes.

This includes measures such as ensuring proper drainage, covering water storage containers, and using mosquito nets or screens on windows and doors.

The Ministry of Health’s Vector Control Department has been actively conducting fogging exercises to reduce mosquito populations.

However, citizens are reminded to take necessary precautions during fogging, such as opening windows to allow the mist to enter homes while protecting food items, water sources, and pets. Individuals with asthma are advised to avoid exposure to fogging droplets.

As dengue prevention requires a collective effort, citizens are encouraged to remain vigilant in maintaining clean and mosquito-free environments.
