President Irfaan Ali has issued a stern warning, stating that his government will not tolerate contractors who fail to fulfill their contractual obligations.
This declaration came during his speech at a memorial event for the late former President Dr. Cheddi Jagan at Babu Jaan over the weekend.
President Ali emphasized that for the government to efficiently deliver services to the people, those entrusted with their responsibilities must be held accountable.
He revealed that contractors who do not meet their contractual obligations will face penalties, including the payment of liquidated damages.
Addressing all permanent secretaries and ministers, President Ali stressed the importance of upholding the law and ensuring that defaulting contractors are dealt with accordingly.
He made it clear that liquidated damages would be charged whenever necessary.
The President had previously urged contractors executing government contracts to expedite their work while maintaining quality.
He reiterated that the government’s performance is not solely dependent on its agencies but also on how contractors execute projects.
President Ali’s firm stance underscores the government’s commitment to accountability and efficiency in public service delivery.
