President Dr. Irfaan Ali has been recognized with the Legacy Award from the American Foundation for the University of the West Indies (AFUWI).

The award was presented during AFUWI’s 27th Annual Awards and Gala in New York, where Guyanese/American actress CCH Pounder bestowed the prestigious honor upon President Ali.

Pounder praised President Ali’s leadership, highlighting his unwavering commitment to nation-building and regional cooperation.

She emphasized his advocacy for the Caribbean on the global stage, championing the region’s development agenda and fostering cooperation for the prosperity of all citizens.

Upon receiving the award, President Ali expressed gratitude to the people of Guyana, citing their resilience and generosity of spirit as sources of inspiration throughout his career in public service.

He underscored the importance of equitable access to education and opportunities for all, drawing on the stories of triumph over adversity among Guyanese as reminders of this vital mission.

President Ali reaffirmed his dedication to Guyana’s prosperity, stressing its interconnectedness with the broader region.

He lauded the generosity of Guyanese citizens, citing recent charitable efforts to support Palestinians and pledging continued assistance for Haiti.

Furthermore, President Ali commended Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, Vice Chancellor of the University of the West Indies, for the institution’s significant contributions to regional development.
