President Irfaan Ali visited Mon Repos yesterday to fulfill promises made earlier this year aimed at enhancing the working conditions for local fisherfolks.

The President announced several key initiatives designed to address ongoing challenges faced by the community.

Construction of a new access road is set to begin next week, which will improve transportation and accessibility for approximately 500 fisherfolks.

Additionally, a new ramp will be constructed to facilitate the offloading of fish and other produce, and dredging of the waterway will be undertaken to resolve issues caused by shallow waters.

During the visit, President Ali also responded to concerns about dust pollution from the sanding of boats, which has been affecting nearby residents.

He assured that measures would be put in place to address this issue effectively.

Another significant concern raised was the lack of land transport options for households in the area.

President Ali acknowledged this problem and informed residents that the Ministry of Housing and Water is currently working on providing solutions.

These interventions are part of a broader effort to improve the livelihoods and working conditions of the fisherfolk community in Mon Repos.
