Residents of the Supply community on the East Coast of Demerara can expect significant improvements in roads, drainage channels, and community facilities following President Irfaan Ali’s recent visit.
The President engaged with residents, addressing their concerns and promising swift action on various issues.
Residents raised pressing matters such as the need for enhanced drainage and irrigation, the repair of dilapidated kokers, and desilting the Shanks Canal.
Concerns were also voiced about the state of the Mahaica Market, incomplete roads, the rehabilitation of the community playground, and the addition of sporting facilities to Sir James Douglas Primary School.
President Ali assured the community that the Ministry of Public Works would assess the roads, with a detailed report outlining necessary works.
He pledged the retrofitting of Sir James Douglas Primary School with a tennis and basketball court by the year’s end and announced plans for the completion of the community playground in the first quarter of the year.
The National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA) will assess the Shanks Canal and other drainage channels, implementing necessary improvements.
President Ali urged the Unity-Vereeniging Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) to collaborate with the central government to enhance the Mahaica Market.
In response to immediate concerns, President Ali committed to advertising bids within a week for the repair of the Belmont and Supply kokers.
The Supply community is also set to benefit from the government’s street lighting program.
Representatives from the GOAL Scholarship program were directed to meet with Supply residents to facilitate their participation in the initiative.
