President Dr. Irfaan Ali to Receive Global Africa Leadership Award Amid Protests

President Dr. Irfaan Ali is set to be conferred with the prestigious Global Africa Leadership Award in Accra, Ghana, for his “strong and transformational leadership” in Guyana since assuming office in August 2020.

The Africa Prosperity Network will present the award, commending President Ali for promoting unity, inclusivity, and shared prosperity under the banner of ‘One Guyana.’

However, members of the International Decade for People of African Descent Assembly in Guyana have protested the award, with some activists labeling the president as racist.

In response, President Ali emphasized that he was not responsible for sending thousands of Afro-Guyanese from the sugar industry or those fired in region 10.

He argued that significant investments continue to be made in all communities, including those where many Afro-Guyanese reside.

President Ali expressed his commitment to creating a more united and peaceful country and stated that he will not be distracted by naysayers.

The award will be presented at the Africa Prosperity Champions Awards and Presidential Gala Dinner in Accra, Ghana, on January 26, 2024.

President Ali has also been invited to deliver the keynote address at the Ghana Presidential and Business Executives Dialogue on January 27.
