President Dr. Irfaan Ali delivered a compelling message to the local private sector at the Private Sector Commission’s Annual Corporate Dinner, urging significant investment in Guyana’s tourism and agriculture sectors.
Held at the Marriott Hotel on Monday, the event served as a platform for President Ali to underscore the immense potential of these key industries.
During his address, President Ali stressed the importance of seizing the abundant opportunities present in tourism and agriculture.
He called upon private sector entities to collaborate and make strategic investments in the tourism market, envisioning Guyana as a prominent global luxury destination.
The President pledged government support through marketing initiatives, infrastructure development, and fiscal incentives to bolster these investments.
Emphasizing the concept of “eco luxury,” President Ali highlighted the potential for developing the glamping industry, aligning with Guyana’s diverse natural resources.
He disclosed ongoing discussions with international groups to establish a luxury tourism product akin to the experience offered in the Dominican Republic.
Transitioning to agriculture, President Ali underscored its vital role in Guyana’s economy and urged the business community to contribute to its further development.
He outlined the government’s vision to establish a regional food hub and encouraged the private sector to become the primary buyer and distributor of Guyana’s agricultural produce.
Acknowledging current production limitations, President Ali proposed leveraging Guyana’s strategic location to serve as a distribution hub for the Caribbean, sourcing produce from Northern Brazil.
Additionally, he advocated for partnerships between the private sector and small businesses to facilitate the distribution of local products in large supermarkets.
President Ali’s address reflects the government’s steadfast commitment to fostering economic growth and development through strategic partnerships with the private sector, particularly in vital sectors like tourism and agriculture.
