President Dr. Irfaan Ali delivered a compelling message to Guyana’s private sector, emphasizing the need for evolution to align with the country’s rapidly transforming landscape.

NCN’s Josiah Williams provided an overview of the President’s remarks at the Private Sector Commission’s 32nd Annual General Meeting, held at the Marriott.

President Ali commended the significant growth witnessed in the private sector in recent years but urged stakeholders to elevate this growth to the next level.

He emphasized the importance of leveraging Guyana’s success to further bolster the economy, urging the private sector to adopt a proactive and aggressive approach.

During the meeting, President Ali reiterated his call from the previous year for greater integration of women into leadership positions within the business sector.

Outgoing Chairman of the PSC, Komal Singh, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the sector’s commitment to working with women and young people to address the increasing demand for skilled individuals and to promote free trade within CARICOM.

Singh also emphasized the private sector’s pivotal role in initiatives such as the Gas to Energy project, which is expected to provide a significant boost to the manufacturing sector, both locally and regionally.

He urged the private sector to adopt a proactive stance in removing non-tariff barriers hindering progress.

The AGM concluded with the anticipation of a new executive being elected to lead the Private Sector Commission for the upcoming year.

As Guyana continues its path of transformation, President Ali’s call for the private sector’s evolution underscores the importance of adaptability and innovation in driving economic growth and prosperity.
