The first Legal Conference on Criminal Justice Reform convened yesterday, where President Dr. Irfaan Ali urged attendees to go beyond crime statistics and examine criminality at all levels to find comprehensive solutions.

In his address, President Ali emphasized the importance of addressing the root causes of crime, noting that this approach will positively impact the entire region.

He highlighted that crime does not exist in isolation and is influenced by various societal, environmental, cultural, and economic factors.

President Ali also pointed out the need to consider global behavioral changes and their effects on crime in the region.

He stressed the importance of a community-based approach to addressing these issues to avoid legal and political risks.

The conference, focused on “Advancing the Needham’s Point Declaration,” was held at the Guyana Marriott and concluded today.
