President Irfaan Ali has called upon medical professionals to prioritize clearing the backlog of health issues affecting the country, particularly those impacting women and children.
At an engagement with medical professionals at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre (ACCC), President Ali emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts to identify key areas with backlogs and seek specialized assistance to address them.
He stressed the need for concerted efforts in clearing these backlogs, underscoring their significance in ensuring the well-being of vulnerable groups within the population.
President Ali also unveiled a series of initiatives aimed at upskilling medical professionals and enhancing service delivery in the health sector.
These initiatives include the development of a comprehensive Adult Care Expansion Program, focused on improving initial care guidelines and launching nationally.
Additionally, efforts are underway at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation to strengthen clinical services, quality, and safety improvement programs, as well as hospital operations.
Moreover, the President highlighted ongoing initiatives such as the pathology diagnostics strengthening initiative, which involves the launch of a new pathology laboratory and the training of additional staff to enhance diagnostic capabilities.
To ensure the seamless implementation of these initiatives, President Ali reassured that short- and medium-term approaches are being employed to prevent any adverse impact on the delivery capacity of the health sector.
He urged medical professionals to acquaint themselves with new health regulations to effectively navigate the evolving landscape of healthcare delivery.
The engagement with medical professionals underscores the government’s commitment to addressing the challenges facing the health sector and enhancing the quality of healthcare services provided to citizens and visitors to Guyana.
