President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali held discussions with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio today as Guyana and the United States move to further strengthen bilateral security cooperation.

In a statement issued by the U.S. State Department, Secretary Rubio commended President Ali for his leadership as a regional security partner and for Guyana’s expanding role in promoting stability across the hemisphere.

The Secretary reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to deepening security cooperation with Guyana to address shared challenges, including illicit narcotics and firearms trafficking, which continue to threaten regional stability and economic resilience.

Both leaders underscored the importance of continued collaboration to disrupt foreign terrorist organizations and transnational criminal networks, while strengthening law-enforcement capacity and border security.

The engagement reflects Guyana’s growing strategic importance within the Caribbean and the wider Americas, as cooperation between Georgetown and Washington continues to deepen on matters of security and regional stability.
