President Irfaan Ali recently addressed the challenges Guyana faced leading up to the 2020 General Elections and highlighted his government’s transformative efforts since then.

During the opening of the People’s Progressive Party’s 32nd congress, President Ali emphasized the importance of remembering the country’s state during the 2015 to 2020 period.

He recounted the harsh campaigns unleashed by the APNU against the people, including the imposition of 200 new taxes, which burdened ordinary citizens.

President Ali underscored the opposition’s failure to invest in traditional sectors such as rice, sugar, forestry, and bauxite, leading to significant losses for families and the economy.

However, he pointed out his government’s proactive measures, including rehiring factory workers, implementing cash grants, and removing around 200 taxes, as outlined in their manifesto.

Despite challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and major floods, President Ali highlighted his administration’s achievements, stating that they fulfilled over 95 percent of their manifesto promises within four years in office.

Furthermore, President Ali emphasized his government’s commitment to inclusive development, which has strengthened the PPP’s position and contributed to the country’s progress.

The president’s remarks shed light on the strides Guyana has made under his leadership, underscoring the government’s dedication to addressing past challenges and fostering a brighter future for all Guyanese.
