President Dr. Irfaan Ali has expressed skepticism about the motives of the U.S. group, the Organization of World Leaders (OWL), currently in Guyana to investigate discrepancies and claims of discrimination.
The President believes that the group has a “particular agenda” and is acting on behalf of the opposition.
In response to the OWL’s presence, President Ali suggested that the group should focus on highlighting alleged wrongdoing by the Opposition when they were in office.
He expressed concerns about the group’s composition and questioned whether they would fairly assess the situation.
Citing his commitment to the unity and development of the entire country, President Ali stated that he will not allow external forces to dictate or interfere in Guyana’s affairs.
He emphasized that his goal is to ensure the well-being of all citizens, irrespective of race or any other factor.
Meanwhile, the private sector commission (PSC) released a statement expressing dissatisfaction with the visiting delegation, asserting that the group is neither bipartisan nor objective in its purpose for visiting Guyana.
As a result, the PSC announced that it would not be meeting with the OWL delegation.
However, the PSC reiterated its openness to legitimate delegations interested in exploring business opportunities and contributing to Guyana’s development.
The OWL’s investigation and its reception in Guyana highlight the complex political dynamics in the country, with different stakeholders expressing varying levels of trust and skepticism towards external entities involved in national affairs.
