President Ali Leads National Clean Up Effort in Guyana

By Fabiana McKlmon

Under the ‘Men on Mission’ (MoM) and ‘One Guyana’ initiative, spearheaded by President Irfaan Ali, the government of Guyana orchestrated a massive national cleanup exercise.

President Ali himself took to the streets, leading by example in the Houston/Agricola area.

The vision driving this initiative is one of a clean and beautiful country, and President Ali demonstrated his commitment by actively participating in the cleanup efforts.

Joining him were scores of individuals from various sectors, including hundreds of police, members of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), members of the Joint Services, Cabinet officials, government representatives, members of the private sector, volunteers, and members of the public.

From as early as 5 am, teams mobilized across different communities and routes nationwide to tackle litter and debris, contributing to the cleanliness and beautification of their surroundings.

Minister of Amerindian Affairs, Pauline Sukhai, emphasized the importance of citizen involvement in maintaining a litter-free environment, stressing the need for proper garbage disposal practices to keep the country clean.

Lt. Col. Ramnauth Parsram, representing the GDF, highlighted the cultural shift needed to combat littering habits and urged citizens to embrace cleaner habits, especially with the approaching Mashramani festivities.

The cleanup efforts extended to the entire stretch of the Kingston seawall, underscoring the comprehensive nature of the initiative.

As Guyana continues to prioritize environmental stewardship and community involvement, initiatives like the national cleanup serve as a testament to the collective commitment towards a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable future for all.
