President Dr. Irfaan Ali visited Timehri on the East Bank of Demerara, addressing critical issues affecting informal settlers and residents.
The primary focus of the visit was on land regularization, impacting around 400 households in the area.
During the engagement, President Ali encouraged squatters to file regularization applications, assuring them of swift resolution.
He announced an aggressive approach, with plans to return within two weeks to distribute titles for individuals within the squatter settlements.
Aside from land regularization, residents raised concerns about drainage, irrigation, road networks, utilities, and agricultural issues.
In response, President Ali pledged that heads of relevant agencies would visit the area to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the issues.
Within one week, a follow-up visit was promised to outline the course of action to address the concerns.
Regarding land regularization, President Ali disclosed that the Guyana Power and Light (GPL), Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI), and the Ministries of Housing and Public Works would collaborate to provide necessary infrastructure.
Additionally, a new housing scheme with 800 lots is in development to accommodate those potentially displaced during the regularization process.
The visit underscores the government’s commitment to resolving longstanding issues in Timehri, with a comprehensive approach that encompasses land regularization, infrastructure development, and addressing various community concerns.
The initiatives aim to uplift the living conditions of residents and provide a foundation for sustainable growth in the region.
