President Dr. Irfaan Ali has paid tribute to the late Sir Shridath Ramphal, describing him as a “giant among men” whose impact will resonate for generations.
Sir Shridath, a distinguished statesman and the longest-serving Secretary General of the Commonwealth, passed away recently, leaving a significant void in both Guyana and the international community.
Sir Shridath Ramphal, a former Foreign Affairs Minister and a fervent advocate for his country and the global community, was renowned for his dedication to justice and equality.
During his tenure as Secretary General, he was a prominent voice against apartheid and a champion for the oppressed.
President Ali expressed deep sorrow over the loss, emphasizing that Sir Shridath’s legacy of leadership and commitment to global issues will continue to inspire future generations.
His contributions to regional and international diplomacy are celebrated as legendary, marking an end of an era for Guyana, the Caribbean, and the Commonwealth of Nations.
Born on October 3, 1928, Sir Shridath is survived by his children, friends, and family, all of whom mourn his passing.
