President Irfaan Ali emphasized Guyana’s natural gas potential during the opening of the third Energy Conference and Expo.
He urged investors to focus on the opportunities presented by this valuable resource as Guyana aims to meet both local and foreign demands.
The government is actively working to harness Guyana’s natural gas resources by constructing a 300-megawatt power plant at Wales, West Bank Demerara.
President Ali highlighted that with current local consumption at 800 barrels of cooking gas per day and production capacity set to reach 4,000 barrels in phase one of the project, Guyana will have a surplus for trade.
President Ali expressed confidence that even with potential growth in local consumption, Guyana will have enough natural gas to trade with neighboring CARICOM countries, Brazil, and the Dominican Republic.
This strategic partnership aims to satisfy daily energy demands and enhance regional cooperation.
The President emphasized that Guyana’s position as a top producer of natural gas will lead to job creation and stimulate growth across various sectors, including logistics and trade.
He called for collaboration among stakeholders to leverage the potential of natural gas for the benefit of the region as a whole.
President Ali also mentioned the government’s vision for the second phase of gas production, which will support the development of additional power plants.
As global demand for natural gas continues to rise, Guyana is poised to play a significant role in meeting energy needs and driving economic development.
