President Dr. Irfaan Ali has assured the public that the government’s development strategy will remain centered on the people, even as the country approaches the 2025 general and regional elections.
Speaking at State House today, President Ali emphasized that his government’s strategy has always been driven by the needs and aspirations of the people, not by an election timetable.
He stated, “I do not run my government based on an election timetable but on what the people require to enjoy a better standard of living.”
On the topic of elections, the President addressed concerns about the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) and their ability to conduct the upcoming polls.
He confirmed that GECOM’s needs will be fully addressed in the 2025 budget, ensuring the body has the necessary resources to conduct free and fair elections.
General and Regional Elections are constitutionally due in the latter half of 2025, and the PPP/C administration is committed to providing the support necessary for the smooth execution of the electoral process.
