President Irfaan Ali made an early morning visit to Bourda Market today, where he committed to improving security and addressing key infrastructural challenges raised by vendors.
During his visit, vendors highlighted concerns about the lack of safety measures at the market.
In response, the president announced plans to establish a police outpost at the market within the week.
The outpost will be equipped with surveillance cameras to monitor activities, aiming to improve security and safety for both vendors and customers.
Accompanied by Minister within the Local Government Ministry Anand Persaud and PPP/C councillors, President Ali expressed dissatisfaction with the city council’s failure to address long-standing security and waste management issues at the market.
He also called for a consultation to develop a large shed, similar to those implemented at other markets across the city.
This visit follows a recent tour of Stabroek Market, where the president addressed similar concerns from the public about market conditions and safety.
