President Dr. Irfaan Ali has pledged $2 million to support the Guyana Conference of Seventh-Day Adventists’ (SDA) Health Ministries outreach program.

This commitment was announced during the SDA’s National Health Fair, held at the Sophia Exhibition Centre on Sunday.

In his remarks, President Ali expressed strong support for the SDA’s health initiatives, recognizing the challenges associated with transportation and logistics for the church’s health services.

The funding will help alleviate some of these logistical burdens, facilitating the continuation and expansion of their outreach efforts.

The President also highlighted the government’s ongoing support for the SDA’s health outreach.

He noted that the Port Mourant Ophthalmology Centre is now fully operational and available for cataract surgeries.

Additionally, the government’s eye testing and spectacles program will provide vouchers to individuals referred by the SDA health ministries.

The SDA Conference is dedicated to extending its health services beyond Georgetown and Sophia.

Over the coming days, the health team will conduct outreach in various regions, including Buxton, Leonora, Burbice, and Good Hope, among other locations.

This initiative is part of the church’s broader effort to enhance healthcare accessibility across Guyana.

The National Health Fair offered a range of services to over 800 attendees, including eye testing, dental exams, blood drives, and nutritional guidance.

The event underscores the SDA’s commitment to public health and its role in supporting community well-being.
