President Irfaan Ali has praised the Guyana Police Force (GPF) Traffic Department for its significant progress in enhancing road safety throughout 2024.
In his year-end remarks, President Ali highlighted the substantial reductions in fatal accidents, road fatalities, and major accidents, noting the positive impact of the Traffic Department’s efforts.
The statistics for 2024 revealed a 20% decrease in fatal accidents, a 24% reduction in road deaths, and a 2% decrease in serious accidents.
President Ali attributed these improvements to targeted interventions implemented by Traffic Chief Mahendra Singh and his dedicated team.
The consistent decline in road fatalities and serious accidents, according to the President, is a clear indication of the effectiveness of these measures.
The government has continued to prioritize road safety through various initiatives.
These include nationwide educational programs, such as 574 school lectures, 761 driver training sessions, and 211 programs for bar owners.
Defensive driving sessions were also conducted in all regions, further strengthening community relations and promoting safe driving practices.
President Ali emphasized that with ongoing law enforcement efforts, public education campaigns, and stricter regulations, the government plans to build on these achievements in the years ahead, with the goal of further reducing traffic-related deaths and ensuring safer roads for all.
