In a distinguished event hosted by British High Commissioner to Guyana, Jane Miller, President Dr. Irfaan Ali highlighted the enduring and productive relationship between Guyana and the United Kingdom.
The celebration, which took place in honor of His Majesty King Charles III’s birth anniversary, underscored the commitment of both nations to advancing mutual interests.
During the event, President Ali acknowledged King Charles III’s significant contributions to environmental initiatives, particularly his support for the Iwokrama International Centre for Rainforest Research and Development in Guyana.
The President emphasized the importance of the King’s ongoing commitment to sustainable rainforest management and climate change resilience.
The President also outlined the substantial economic exchanges between Guyana and the UK, noting that over 1.8 billion pounds worth of goods and services were traded between the two countries in 2023.
He expressed a hopeful outlook for continued collaboration in various sectors including tourism, infrastructure, security, health, climate, and food security.
British High Commissioner Jane Miller lauded Guyana’s efforts in diversifying its economy and mentioned the UK’s investment in a major road project connecting Linden to Mabura Hills.
This infrastructure development, funded by a 52 million-pound grant from the UK, aims to enhance trade and tourism, as well as improve access to education and healthcare for local communities.
The event was attended by Prime Minister Mark Phillips, several Cabinet ministers, government officials, and members of the Diplomatic Corps, reflecting the strong bilateral ties and shared commitment to furthering cooperation between Guyana and the UK.
The celebration not only honored King Charles III but also reinforced the ongoing partnership and collaboration between the two nations, with a focus on advancing mutual goals and addressing global challenges.
