President Dr. Irfaan Ali has officially turned the sod for the construction of the West Demerara Regional Hospital, a state-of-the-art facility valued at $11.4 billion.

The new hospital, expected to be completed by 2028, will offer advanced medical services, including outpatient care in endoscopy, ENT clinics, dermatology, ophthalmology, and internal medicine.

During the ceremony, President Ali highlighted his administration’s commitment to modernizing healthcare infrastructure across Guyana.

The initiative aligns with the government’s broader vision of providing world-class medical services nationwide.

Minister of Health Dr. Frank Anthony also addressed the gathering, noting that the government is surpassing its initial commitments by implementing transformative healthcare projects aimed at enhancing the quality of medical care for all citizens.

The construction of the hospital will be carried out by a consortium of China CAMC Engineering Co. Limited and Sinopharm International.
