President Dr. Irfaan Ali recently revealed significant upward salary adjustments and allowances for teachers, ranging from 10% to 17%.
In addition to these adjustments, teachers will also receive a one-off bonus of $25,000 in December.
The Head of State outlined specific details of the salary adjustments, particularly for graduate teachers.
Salaries for all graduate teachers will be elevated to the maximum of the scale applicable to their current positions.
Furthermore, teachers with a Bachelor’s Degree will receive a monthly allowance of $10,000, totaling $120,000 annually.
Those with a Master’s Degree will be entitled to a monthly allowance of $20,000, or $240,000 annually.
For individuals holding a doctorate, the allowance increases to $30,000 monthly, amounting to $360,000 annually.
President Ali also addressed increases in the Remote Areas Incentives (RAI) provided to hinterland teachers.
The RAI will see a substantial boost, amounting to $260 million.
Additionally, senior Masters and Mistresses within three years of retirement, who did not previously benefit from duty-free allowances, are now eligible for a duty-free allowance for a motorcar up to 1500 CC.
These announcements mark a significant step in recognizing and enhancing the remuneration and benefits for teachers, including measures to address specific challenges faced by those in remote areas.
