President Irfaan Ali has announced a one-off bonus payment for public servants, pensioners, and persons living with disabilities as part of the Cost-of-Living relief measures.
The bonus, payable in December 2023, will be $25,000 for all public sector workers, including teachers and members of the disciplined services, benefiting approximately 67,000 workers and amounting to approximately 1.7 billion dollars.
In addition, around 72,000 pensioners are expected to receive a one-off bonus of $25,000.
Persons living with disabilities, who are on the public assistance register, will receive a $35,000 bonus in December.
These measures are part of the government’s commitment to providing financial support to various segments of the population.
President Ali emphasized the government’s support for farmers, allocating $850 million for the purchase of fertilizers.
This initiative aims to assist farmers in sustaining their agricultural activities and mitigating the impact of rising costs.
In the 2023 budget, 5 billion dollars were allocated to cushion the effects of the rising cost of living.
President Ali reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing economic challenges and implementing measures to contain costs.
These relief measures underscore the government’s efforts to support the well-being of citizens, particularly those facing economic challenges, and to ensure inclusive economic policies that benefit various sectors of society.
