Significant improvements in farm-to-market access roads are set to enhance agricultural productivity and connectivity in Region Two, with a focus on supporting local farmers.
This was confirmed by President Dr. Irfaan Ali during a visit to the region today.
Addressing a meeting of farmers and residents in Anna Regina, President Ali responded to concerns raised about the condition of roads that are critical for transporting agricultural produce to markets.
He announced that approximately 12 kilometers of roads in key agricultural areas—Affiance, Bush Lot, Maria’s Delight, Queenstown, and Dartmouth—have been prioritized for upgrading.
These projects, which include roads of varying lengths from 1.2 kilometers to 3.6 kilometers, are expected to begin before the end of the year, with engineers already completing the cost assessments.
The President emphasized that the upgrades to these access roads are part of a broader effort to improve infrastructure across the region, aiming to make it easier for farmers to bring their products to market and stimulate economic activity.
He also noted that the increase in agricultural production in the area has led to greater demand for transport services, further highlighting the need for these improvements.
This initiative forms part of the government’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the agricultural sector and promoting regional economic growth through enhanced infrastructure development.
The upgrades are expected to have a lasting positive impact on both the local farming community and the broader economy of Region Two.
