Residents of Good Hope on the East Coast of Demerara can look forward to significant improvements in their community following commitments made by President Irfaan Ali during an outreach event on Monday.

During the engagement, President Ali listened attentively to the concerns raised by residents and promptly responded with assurances of action to address their needs.

One of the primary concerns raised by residents was the need for improved lighting, drainage, electricity, and recreational facilities.

In response, President Ali committed to addressing these issues, promising initiatives such as the installation of street lights, speed bumps, and upgrades to playground recreational facilities.

Residents also expressed dissatisfaction with services provided by agencies such as the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI), the Guyana Power and Light (GPL), and the National Insurance Scheme (NIS).

President Ali promptly instructed the heads of these agencies to meet with residents to address their concerns directly.

Furthermore, concerns about the condition of drains in the area were addressed by Lionel Wordsworth, Chairman of the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA).

Wordsworth disclosed plans to upgrade approximately 29 kilometers of internal drains in the community, with work expected to commence within a week.

Remarkably, unlike many other communities, residents of Good Hope did not raise concerns about the condition of their roads.

This is attributed to recent upgrades by the Public Works Ministry, which completed the improvement of all 41 internal roads in the community.

Minister Deodat Indar, within the Public Works Ministry, highlighted that this project is part of a broader effort, with almost 300 roads under construction on the East Coast of Demerara and 580 across the country.

The outreach event reflects President Ali’s commitment to engaging directly with communities and addressing their needs.

As development projects are set in motion, residents of Good Hope can anticipate tangible improvements in their quality of life.
