President Ali Announces AI Integration to Strengthen Guyana Defence Force

Plans are underway to modernize the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) with the introduction of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies, aimed at enhancing national security and safeguarding the country’s sovereignty.

Speaking at the Annual Officers’ Conference, President Dr. Irfaan Ali emphasized that the increasingly complex global security environment requires the adoption of modern military operations.

The use of AI, according to the President, will provide strategic advantages and enhance operational readiness for the GDF.

A thorough evaluation of AI integration is currently underway to ensure that these technological advancements align with Guyana’s national security needs.

President Ali stressed that AI will play a crucial role in strengthening intelligence gathering, surveillance, and rapid response capabilities within the GDF.

The importance of AI-driven defence mechanisms is particularly crucial with rising tensions along the Guyana-Venezuela border, where the technology will be instrumental in protecting Guyana’s sovereignty.

In support of these modernization efforts, the Guyana Defence Force was allocated 50.4 billion dollars this year as part of the government’s ongoing commitment to enhancing defense capabilities.
