A major facelift of Georgetown is moving full speed ahead with works on East Street nearing completion. Attention is now shifted to Camp Street, where overnight crews are transforming the corridor as part of the government’s city beautification drive.
President Dr. Irfaan Ali joined workers on site during the late-night operation as efforts continue to improve drainage, upgrade road infrastructure, and enhance the overall appearance of the capital.
The overnight operation is part of the government’s city beautification project aimed at enhancing road shoulders, drainage access, and overall urban environment. It has progressed through various streets and is now extended to Camp Street, addressing long-standing issues such as improper vendor structures, inadequate garbage disposal, and ineffective drainage systems that impede improvements to the city’s appearance and functionality.
“And if you see here, it’s where there is a hole on the ground drainage that is ineffective now.So these are the things we have to fix around the city as we work on the city enhancement plan,” the president explained.
The overnight work involves clearing debris, creating hard surfaces along the road shoulders, and addressing drainage concerns that contribute to flooding and deterioration of public infrastructure.
“This is one of the projects we want to introduce to our city enhancement program. And our city enhancement program is designed to create hard surfaces along the park,” he said
To minimise disruption, the project is scheduled throughout the night to finish before the morning traffic.
