President Dr. Irfaan Ali said the government is working on systems that would allow citizens to invest in key national ventures and benefit financially. He revealed this while speaking at a Labour Day brunch at State House in Georgetown on Friday.
He added that expanded social programs and stronger institutions are aimed at improving living standards and ensuring long-term financial security.
“We have to develop our opportunities and carve out a specific modus, a specific program through which our workers can own things,” the president said.
He said that is why, across all major opportunities including natural gas and fertilizer projects, efforts are being made to give workers a chance to earn beyond their regular salaries and better prepare for retirement.
“We are going to develop special mechanisms and incentives so our workers can invest and our workers can own a piece of the assets of the future. That is what we want,” he stressed.
