Preparations set for October 1 online passport system rollout

-by Nakasia Logan

Guyana is poised to take a massive leap into the digital future. That is because preparations are set for the country to officially transition to a mandatory, online-only passport application and appointment system from October 1, 2026.

Citizens now have just over a month to adapt to the new digital passport framework, which requires all applications and appointments to be completed online before visiting a center.

Deputy Chief Immigration Officer, Senior Superintendent Stephen Telford says the era of manual, face-to-face drop-offs without prior scheduling will soon be in the past.

“That in itself allows you the applicant in the application process to choose which one of the passport offices you want to do your application at a date and a time that is convenient to you,” he said.

Decentralized Service Centers will support this digital shift and ensure that remote areas are not left behind.

Besides the Central Immigration and Passport Office, other service centers include Region 2 Cotton Field Call Centre, Region 3, West Central Mall, Region 5 Fort Wellington, Berbice, Region 6, Port Mourant, Region 9 Business Incubators Centre and Linden Immigration Office.

This upcoming October deadline builds upon the successful soft launch of the Online Guyana Passport Application and Appointment System portal two months ago.

Initially introduced to run alongside traditional methods, early feedback from users praised the portal for being simple and efficient.

Meanwhile, with thousands of citizens expected to rush online over the next few weeks, users are being urged to be extremely vigilant.

“Be careful as it relates to using the URL, that maybe be fakely placed out there. So, I would want to take this opportunity to encourage you to ensure that you go apply, make your appointment and then we will serve you,”

To ensure your data remains secure and your application is legitimate, authorities emphasize that there is only one official website to apply: pp.gpf.gov.gy.
