Preparatory works have commenced for the construction of a modern nursing school and living quarters in New Amsterdam, Berbice.
Region Six Chairman David Armogan informed the media that the initial stages of land clearing and preparation are underway at Charles Place in New Amsterdam.
The contract for the construction of the nursing school has already been awarded.
The state-of-the-art training facility will feature advanced teaching aides, simulation laboratories, and an adjacent dormitory to accommodate students.
The site, previously occupied by the old New Amsterdam hospital, is now being readied for construction.
Chairman Armogan stated, “The land has been cleared, the people who have been occupying the front, we move out and so the land has been cleared.”
The new nursing school aims to provide accommodation for nurses from outside the region, allowing them to live and study on-site.
President Irfaan Ali had announced that this facility is part of the government’s efforts to integrate more trained nurses into the expanding healthcare system.
