The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) concluded its 32nd congress with significant resolutions aimed at reshaping its constitution and ideological stance.

Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, the General Secretary, highlighted the party’s commitment to embracing political and ideological pluralism to create a national democratic state.

One of the major changes involved removing references to Marxism and Leninism from the party’s constitution.

According to Dr. Jagdeo, this move allows the party to focus on its own history, struggles, and achievements rather than outdated ideologies.

The decision received unanimous support from party members.

Additionally, the congress passed resolutions to review and update the constitution, expand regional party management structures, transition membership dues to an annual basis, and utilize social media to promote the party’s history and achievements.

Another key resolution focused on advocating for free, fair, and accountable elections in Guyana, demonstrating the party’s commitment to democratic principles.

Furthermore, the PPP pledged support for the government’s stance on important issues, including calls for a ceasefire in Palestine and upholding Guyana’s position on the Guyana-Venezuela border controversy.

Dr. Jagdeo emphasized the importance of aligning the party’s resolutions with the government’s stance on critical matters, reflecting unity and solidarity within the political landscape.

The congress’s outcomes signal a strategic shift for the PPP, reflecting a commitment to adapt to evolving political dynamics and promote a vision of inclusive governance.
