During his weekly media conference at Freedom House, Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, General Secretary of the ruling People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C), delivered a stern warning to residents of Guyana’s hinterland regions.

He cautioned them against being misled by what he characterized as baseless promises from the political opposition.

Dr. Jagdeo specifically addressed the recent visit of the opposition leader to communities in Region One, where he criticized the opposition’s pledges.

One particular promise highlighted by Dr. Jagdeo was Norton’s commitment to economically empower indigenous communities by making every Amerindian a contractor.

Dr. Jagdeo dismissed these promises as unrealistic, emphasizing that the PPP/C government was already investing heavily in infrastructure and developmental programs in the hinterland regions.

He pointed out that the government, under President Irfaan Ali’s leadership, was actively implementing road improvements, agricultural programs, and training initiatives, which mirrored the promises made by the opposition.

Dr. Jagdeo highlighted specific examples, mentioning the substantial financial allocations for road construction in places like Port Kaituma and Mabaruma.

Additionally, Dr. Jagdeo emphasized the government’s commitment to comprehensive development in the hinterland regions.

He revealed that millions of US dollars had already been disbursed to Amerindian communities, with further investments planned for the construction of hospitals and other essential infrastructure.

In conclusion, Dr. Jagdeo urged hinterland residents to critically evaluate the promises made by the opposition and to recognize the ongoing efforts of the PPP/C government in addressing their needs and priorities.

The message aimed to caution against falling for what he deemed as empty rhetoric and to reaffirm the government’s dedication to uplifting Guyana’s hinterland communities.
