PPP Announces New Central Committee Members and General Secretary Election

The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) has unveiled its new Central Committee, comprising 35 members who will steer the party’s course until the next congress.

During a press conference at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre, General Secretary Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo announced the newly elected members of the Central Committee and outlined the timeline for electing a new General Secretary.

The voting process concluded on Saturday, with prominent members such as President Dr. Irfaan Ali, Zulfikar Mustapha, Vickram Bharrat, Gail Teixeira, and others securing positions in the 35-member committee.

Additionally, individuals including Nigel Dharamlall, Collin Croal, Kwame McCoy, Anil Nandlall, and several others were named as members of the Central Committee.

Furthermore, Deodat Indar, Mae Thomas, Jason Abdulla, Andrew Forsythe, and Rion Lancedale Peters were elected as Candidate Members to participate in Central Committee meetings as non-voting members.

Dr. Jagdeo revealed that the new Central Committee will convene within the coming days to elect key party leaders.

This process will include the selection of an Executive Committee and the appointment of a new General Secretary, among other officers.

He expressed gratitude for the success of the congress and extended appreciation to all contributors.

Dr. Jagdeo emphasized that the party and the government remain aligned in their views and policies.

The PPP’s congress marks a significant step in solidifying the party’s leadership structure and ensuring continued effectiveness in governance and policy direction.
