The recent three-day state visit to Guyana by India’s Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has resulted in promising developments for Guyana and its citizens, according to PPP General Secretary and Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo.

During his visit, Prime Minister Modi unveiled a seven-point cooperation plan with CARICOM and signed several memorandums of understanding with the Guyanese government.

These agreements cover multiple sectors, including hydrocarbons, agriculture, health, information technology, capacity building, and technology transfers.

In a press conference following the visit, Dr. Jagdeo expressed optimism about the swift implementation of these agreements.

He noted that discussions are already underway with Guyana’s Foreign Minister to establish the mechanisms needed to turn these declarations of intent into actionable programs and policies that will directly benefit the Guyanese people.

Dr. Jagdeo also highlighted India’s commitment to supporting Guyana and the wider Caribbean region.

He emphasized India’s leadership in key sectors such as technology and capacity building, with the potential to significantly contribute to Guyana’s sustainable development.

This visit marks a continuation of the long-standing friendship between India and Guyana, a relationship that dates back to Modi’s first visit to Guyana in 2000 when Dr. Jagdeo was President.
