Pollard’s Powerhouse Performance Propels TKR to Victory Over St. Lucia Kings

In a thrilling match of the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL), Kieron Pollard delivered a match-winning performance to guide Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) to a four-wicket victory over St. Lucia Kings at the Darren Sammy Stadium.

Pollard’s explosive half-century was crucial in chasing down the 188-run target, securing TKR’s victory in the final overs.

St. Lucia Kings, who were put into bat after losing the toss, posted a competitive 187 for 6 in their 20 overs.

Skipper Faf du Plessis contributed 34 runs, while Johnson Charles added 29, helping the Kings reach 40 without loss.

However, the innings lost momentum with a few quick wickets.

Roston Chase stabilized the innings with a top score of 56, while Bhanuka Rajapaksa supported with a 33-run cameo, pushing the score to 151 before the partnership was broken.

Despite the strong total, TKR’s bowling attack, led by Sunil Narine with figures of 2 for 13, kept things tight.

However, Waqar Salamkhiel, though expensive, also took two key wickets.

In response, TKR’s chase began shakily with the early loss of wickets, but Shaqkere Parris played a vital role with a well-crafted 57, featuring six sixes and one boundary.

His innings helped rebuild the momentum for TKR.

The turning point of the match came when Pollard, in his signature aggressive style, smashed seven sixes during his unbeaten knock of 52 off just 19 balls.

His fireworks in the death overs ensured TKR crossed the finish line with a four-wicket victory, keeping the crowd on the edge of their seats.

St. Lucia Kings’ captain Faf du Plessis reflected on the match, acknowledging that while they set a solid total, a couple of expensive overs in the latter stages cost them dearly.
