Police are preparing to review CCTV footage following Sunday morning’s explosion that left a 56-year-old Realtor in critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.

The Government of Guyana has meanwhile pledged its support to the shell-shocked family to recover.

An early morning explosion at a residence on Pineapple Street, East Ruimveldt, has left 56-year-old Troy Alleyne hospitalised with severe burns. The incident occurred at approximately 2:00 AM on Sunday.

Initial reports suggest that a gas cylinder may have been the source of the explosion. Mr. Alleyne was rushed to the hospital shortly after the explosion, where he is currently receiving treatment for his injuries.

Minister of Labour, Keoma Griffith, visited the scene and reaffirmed the Government of Guyana’s support for the family.

“I just spoke with Melissa who is the matriarch of this home her husband has sustained some injuries to his body and so right now our main concern is seeing that he has a full and speedy recovery. And of course the Government of Guyana, I am already spoken to my colleagues and we have assured this family that they have the full support of the government of Guyana,” he said.

Meanwhile, relatives of Alleyne are urging a thorough police investigation into the incident, with several citing previous domestic disturbances.

And the Guyana Police Force in a statement have made it clear that investigations are ongoing, with CCTV cameras in the area to be reviewed.
