A tragic incident unfolded in Yakusari, Black Bush Polder, as 63-year-old Shri Maan Somraj, a farmer, was reportedly electrocuted while attempting to remove illegal connections from his home.
The incident has prompted an investigation by the police.
Somraj was discovered motionless in his yard with electrical wires in his hand at approximately 09:15 on Thursday.
His wife, Dhanmatee Deonarine, recounted the events leading up to the tragic incident, revealing that Somraj had been attempting to remove the illegal connections before the fatal accident occurred.
According to Deonarine, Somraj had planned to accompany her to buy a water pump after she finished selling fish.
However, when she returned home, she found him lying motionless in the yard.
It is believed that Somraj had an illegal power connection from an abandoned house lot to his home and became entangled with the wires.
Deonarine expressed shock and disbelief at the sudden turn of events, initially assuming that her husband had fallen ill.
She described the heartbreaking moment when she discovered him and attempted to hoist him up with the help of neighbors before authorities arrived.
The circumstances surrounding Somraj’s death are currently under investigation by the police.
As the community mourns the loss of a beloved member, questions remain about the safety of illegal electrical connections and the need for greater awareness and enforcement to prevent such tragedies in the future.
