Police Investigate Multi-Million-Dollar Burglary at Wismar Market

By Shannon Totaram

A police investigation is currently underway following a significant burglary at the Wismar Municipal Market, where a goldsmith vendor reported losses amounting to five million dollars.

Nandallal Persaud, also known as Magga, is the victim of the break-in and theft.

The incident came to light when Persaud received a call around 6 am from a neighboring vendor.

Persaud’s daughter, Lechelle, recounted that upon arriving at the shop around 6:30 am, they discovered that two padlocks had been broken off from the steel grill.

A further inspection revealed that three million six hundred thousand dollars in cash and one million four hundred thousand dollars worth of jewelry were missing.

Persaud promptly reported the incident to the Wismar Police Station.

The Division Ten police have confirmed that an investigation into the burglary is in progress.

Preliminary findings suggest that the perpetrators accessed the stall by breaking a hole in the concrete wall at the back entrance of the market.

In response to the incident, Linden’s Mayor Sharma Solomon, accompanied by regional councilors, visited the Wismar Market on Tuesday to address security concerns and other issues affecting the vendors.
