Police are investigating an alarming incident in which a man in a heavily tinted car attempted to lure two students into his vehicle outside Marian Academy in Georgetown.
The event took place at the end of the school day on Friday, November 1, and has raised concerns among parents, guardians, and school officials alike.
The Form Two (Grade 8) students reported that the man offered them candy in an attempt to coax them into his car.
Fortunately, the students did not comply and instead informed their teachers about the suspicious encounter.
Assistant Commissioner Simon McBean, Commander of Division 4A, confirmed that interviews and statements have been taken from all parties involved, and the case is currently under active investigation.
Following the incident, Marian Academy has taken steps to alert parents and students about the potential threat.
The matter gained wider attention when two voice notes began circulating on WhatsApp over the weekend, prompting other schools to reinforce safety protocols for their students.
Christ Church Secondary has issued a reminder about its pick-up policy and advised students not to travel alone, especially when leaving school or going out for meals after school hours.
Parents and guardians are urged to reinforce the following safety tips with their children:
- Always say no to strangers
- Stay in safe, populated areas
- Never accept gifts or offers from unfamiliar individuals
- Be aware of who will pick them up from school
- Know emergency contact numbers and stay alert at all times
Schools and parents are encouraged to remain vigilant to ensure the safety and well-being of students.
