Police Chief Highlights Force’s Vigilance

Acting Commissioner of Police, Clifton Hicken, emphasized the Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) commitment to remaining vigilant, proactive, and adaptable in addressing the evolving challenges within the country.

Hicken outlined the force’s strategy for the future, which involves embracing innovation and collaboration while continuously improving to meet the evolving needs of law enforcement in the 21st century.

He expressed plans to integrate technology into policing methodologies, including the adoption of advanced analytics, artificial intelligence, and predictive policing tools.

Acknowledging the progress made by the force over the past three years, Commissioner Hicken also highlighted the various challenges faced by the GPF, including ongoing criminal activities such as mining-related crimes, youth violence, transnational crime, and internal staffing capacity issues.

To address these challenges, the GPF is expanding its operations by increasing its patrol fleet, rehabilitating facilities, and providing continued training opportunities for its ranks.

The annual police officers’ conference, held under the theme “Transformative Unity: Nurturing Trust, Youth Development, Professionalism & Safety Through Competence & Strategic Partnerships,” aims to address these issues.

The conference, which will conclude on Saturday, features addresses by ministers and private sector individuals, focusing on fostering unity, youth development, professionalism, and safety through competence and strategic partnerships.
